Mental Health Counselor

Duties and Responsibilities: Mental Health Counselors work with groups, or individuals to improve their mental health. They discuss emotions and previous experiences their clients have had. They refer their clients to psychologists and other services. They help people work through problems like depression, stress, addiction, etc. They provide therapy to help them get over their problems and can improve the person’s behavior.

Salary: $43,990 (annually)


Education: In order to be a Mental Health Counselor you must obtain a Doctorate or a PhD. Have a masters degree in counseling and you would have to have experience in a clinical setting. You would have to go through various stages to become a Mental Health Counselor. But it's very simple.

Demand or Need for this Profession: The projected growth of a Mental health counselor is 19%. There are approximately 168,200 jobs available.


Reflection: I would like to be a Mental Health Counselor because I would get to communicate with others and I would get to help others. I also like to get to know others better.
