“Losing or winning doesn’t determine how you are as a player, how you play in the court is what makes you the kind of player you are or will be.”

This defines the meaning of how or what makes you the person you are. For example, losing a match / game doesn’t mean you and the team are bad players it just means you didn’t communicate with others. Or taking that win doesn’t mean you’re good at playing it simply just means you tried your best and didn’t stop until it was over. It all depends on how you play the ball. Being an effective communicator is the all it takes. It doesn’t matter who wins or loses. All that matters is having fun. It allows you to have fun and show people what you have learned during a time period. Just because someone wins doesn’t mean you have to be cocky. That’s choosing the wrong, making others feel bad. The importance of participating in a game is having fun and showing others how you can play in the court, it determines what kind of person you are.

"Obedience is central to becoming, being, and remaining happy." - David Bednar

David Bednar states obedience is the key to being happy and staying happy. For example, doing the right thing means being obedient. When being obedient you are respectful and safe. When you do the right thing you feel good because you know you did the right thing. When you do the wrong you feel bad because you did something you weren't supposed to do. When being obedient you are happy and you stay happy.
The LAUSD website provides services such as:

  • Graduation Requirements
  • College and Career Information
  • Student Integration Services
  • Online Learning in LAUSD
  • Student Tools and Resources

These student services can help a lot during this time period. I can refer back to these resources to help me understand what qualifications I need to graduate and certain things like that. Not only I can refer back to this website but also families and employees can refer back to this. It would be helpful to look back at this once in awhile to see what LAUSD events are going to occur.

"What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a player." - John Wooden

This quote means it all depends on what kind of person you are on the inside. When you play on the field or in the gym it doesn't define the person that you are. For example, when being on the court you may act a little different because you're too focused on the things that are going on around you. But when you are not in the court you may be a good person and that's what makes you a good player. The person you are off court is the person you are in the court. Being respectful, responsible, etc. can make you a good sportsmanship. It can make you become a better player. John Wooden taught his players how to be a good sportsmanship, he never taught them how to win. They won many games with just one phrase. The person you are is what makes up the player you are.

"True wealth is of the heart, not the purse." - Pathros

This quote means that people who are rich from the heart are caring, and honest. Being rich doesn't mean money that comes out of your pocket or purse. It's the kind of person you are. What kind of person you decide to be. For example, being honest and being respectful makes you truly wealthy because it's coming from your heart. Even though you have all the money in the world, it doesn't represent who you are in the inside. People think being wealthy is the one thing that makes you the greatest person in the world. It's not being wealthy doesn't mean anything it only means you have money because you work hard for it. Poor or rich, it all depends the kind of person you are in the inside. Being a productive citizen, a responsible and a honest person is what makes you truly wealthy in your heart.

"You cannot do wrong and feel right. It is impossible" - Ezra T. Benson

Ezra T. Benson states this, you cannot do wrong and feel right. When doing wrong you're going to feel wrong. When doing right you are going to feel right. For example, if  you take a test and copy off of someone's paper of course you're going to get a good grade, but then you feel bad because you the grade you didn't deserve. Or doing something you shouldn't have done you don't feel right. It's impossible to feel right. You feel guilt because you didn't do something right. Telling the truth is one part about feeling right. If you don't tell the truth you're going to feel guilty because you lied to someone, but if you tell the truth you feel right because you were being honest. Doing wrong and feeling right is not the best combination. Do right and feel right.

"When I do good I feel good. When I do bad I feel bad." - Abraham Lincoln

When Abraham Lincoln says this he means when you do good you feel good because of what you did. If you do bad you feel bad because you did something wrong. For example, when your honest and tell the truth you feel good about yourself. When you lie and don't tell the truth you don't feel good about yourself. You feel guilty when you do bad because then you realize you shouldn't have done it. Abraham Lincoln said when you do good you feel good. He wasn't wrong. I once helped someone in need because he was homeless. It was cold out and he was laying on the floor. He wouldn't have anything to eat once he woke up. I left a few dollars on his side and left because i was running late to school. I felt good about it and I'm pretty sure he was happy about getting to eat. When you do good, you feel good. When you do bad, you feel bad.

"The key to freedom is obedience. The more obedient we are, the more freedom we have."- Boyd K. Packer

Boyd K. Packer states that being obedient is the key to freedom. This means the more we follow the rules the more freedom we have. For example, if you want to hang out with friends you need to show your parents that you can follow rules and be responsible then they can let you go out. Otherwise if you don't follow the rules and you show your parents you can't be responsible you won't have as much freedom. Obedience is the key to freedom. "Choosing the right" can lead you to being an obedient kid. Most people don't obey rules and don't get much freedom. Being obedient can lead you many different ways. Being responsible, and following rules is being obedient. Obedience is the key to freedom.

The Twin Towers Attacks -

During September 9, 2001 terrorist hijacked passenger planes against the World Trade Center, and the the Pentagon in Washington D.C. A fourth plane crashed on the Pennsylvania field and killed all passengers on the plane. My first memory of these attacks was when my mom was watching the news like 4-5 years after the incident had happened. I asked what happened and she explained it to me I was still little so I couldn't understand quite well. They later announced it when I started going to school and I started becoming more aware of the situation.

Reflection: My thoughts and feelings about this situation is that it's very unbelievable that people would actually do this stuff. It's sad seeing people die just out of nowhere. The attack was not necessary the people who died are very much appreciated.

Thomas S. Monson Reflection

Thomas S. Monson spoke about how he was disobedient as a little boy. He was at a cabin with his friend Danny  and he had an idea about setting the dry grass on fire. His idea was that the grass was going to create a ring of fire. He was wrong, he lit a match and everything caught on fire. They called for help. What they did was disobedient and  they could've set everything on fire like the cabins, trees or even the people. From this experience he learned obedience is the great test of life.

"Education is the latch key to success in life" - Gordon B. Hinckley

Gordon B. Hinckley stated "Education is the latch key to success in life," by this he meant education is the most important thing in life. Education will get you a career you enjoy, it will get you to succeed in many different ways. For example, graduating high school, going to college / university, and getting a diploma. This will help you get a job and it will be something you enjoy doing like such as being a doctor or being an architect. Not a lot of people have an education but some still succeed because they teach themselves how to read and write. People tend to say education doesn't have a meaning so they dont try. Later on they're going to regret saying it and suffer for not having a career. Education is important to a lot of people this is the beginning of your future.
