“A promise must never be broken.” - Alexander Hamilton

The statement given from Alexander Hamilton means that you should never break a promise. Once making a promise you have to keep it. For example, promising your friend you’ll go to her birthday party, then not showing up at all. That is breaking a promise. Don’t ever make a promise you can’t keep. If you make a promise and break it no one will have trust in you. You want to gain trust from people not lose it. Promises can be said without using the word promise. Trust plays an important role in promises. If you keep a promise then everything and everyone will be fine. If promises are broken, you’ll lose someone's trust and maybe friendship. Never make a promise that you can’t keep. If you can’t keep a promise then communicate with that person and solve the conflict. Don't ignore the promise and pretend it didn’t happen. Don’t ever break a promise.

“Goodness is the only investment that never fails.” - Henry David Thoreau

This statement by Henry David Thoreau means that doing good is the only thing that will never fail. Being good means being respectful, having manners, being polite, being trustworthy, being a CTR person. For example, if you walk and find money on the floor and you think it might belong to the person in front of you, give it back. Taking CTR actions never fails. It will not only make the person feel happy but, it will make you feel happy as well. You get an unforgettable feeling that tells you and lets you know that you did the right thing in returning that money. Goodness is the only investment that never fails. Being good to others demonstrates that you are a kind, trustworthy person. If you do good you receive good. If you do bad you receive bad. The little things you do for others will make a person’s day 10 times better. Goodness should always be represented. Goodness means being safe, being respectful, being responsible and having manners. “My basic principle is that you don’t make decisions because they are easy; you don’t make them because they are cheap; you don’t make them because they’re popular; you make them because they’re right.” - Theodore Hesburgh

Making the right decisions means choosing the right path. When choosing the right path you create a good future for yourself. When someone asks you why you made that choice you say you did it because it was the right choice. For example, if someone asks you to steal something that’s not yours you would automatically say no. Why? Because it was the right choice. Make your own decisions decide what is right for you. Don’t make the wrong choice even if everyone is for it. Making the right choice even if everyone is against it. Theodore Hesburgh wants us to make the right choice because it’s the right thing to do. Think about your decision and what it will cause. Think about the consequences, will they be good or bad. You don’t make your decisions because they are easy you don’t make them because it is cheap you make them because they are right. If you make the wrong decision the bad consequences will come to you. If you make the right choice better and good consequences will come to you. Make the decision because it is right not because it’s popular.

“It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and good, and unpopular that which is unsound” (not good) - Joseph Smith

This statement by Joseph Smith means making and influencing others to do what’s right. Be a role model to the students and the people in our community to do what’s right. For example, your little brothers or sisters, you are a role model to them and you set an example to them so teach them ways to become a CTR person. Make them do good for others not just themselves. We need to concentrate on influencing others to do what’s right not wrong. Teaching others to do good will change the society and make it better for others. Joseph Smith says that we should make good popular and make bad unpopular. Be a role model to others and show them the difference between right and wrong.
Spring Break Days

During this spring break I did a lot of activities that I really enjoyed. My family and I went on a hiking trip at Kenneth Hahn Recreation Park. We met up with my other family members and all had a fun experience. Luckily I didn’t have Spring Break homework, so I spent my days watching movies. During one the days I also met up with some friends and we ran around a park and then played volleyball. Spring Break was somewhat fun I guess mainly because I got to do the things I love. Although I didn’t have any CTR experiences. Maybe next time I will. I spent most of my time at my cousin’s house. My spring break wasn’t anything crazy it was just simple but I still enjoyed it. Although something did happen. When we were at Kenneth Hahn Park we were hiking up this trail and I slipped so I grabbed onto the side and I didn’t realize there was a cactus on the side of the trail. I placed my hand on the side and got a thorn from the cactus into my finger. It hurt so bad, but my finger is better now. Although my Spring Break wasn’t as cool it was a great experience for me and that’s all that matters.

“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.” - Abraham Lincoln

This statement by Abraham Lincoln means play fair even if you win or lose. For example, being on a team such as basketball, football, etc. you are taught to play fair. You may be competitive but you still have to play by the rules. Doing the right thing is playing by the rules. Cheating may get you that win but in the inside you will still feel like a sore loser because you didn’t deserve to win. You didn’t make the effort to win, you just took a shortcut. The only way to get a successful win is by playing by the rules and playing fairly. Abraham Lincoln states although he isn’t bound to win he is bound to be true. This means being honest. Being honest is one of the most important things to do. Lying just leads up to more lies and sooner or later you will lose everyone’s trust. Stand with people who are right and honest. Be bound to be true.

“Character is higher than intellect.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

This statement means the thing that matters most is character. Having character means having a good attitude. For example, when joining a sport’s team the coaches look out to see if you have skills and put effort into playing the game. Not only that but they look at the way you play with others, to see if you have sportsmanship. Having a good character is important because it defines you as a person. You can be the richest or smartest person in the world but that wouldn't matter, character will. Being cooperative is part of having good character it also falls together with having a good attitude. Putting in effort and having character comes together to form something new. Having manners comes along with having good character and believe it or not it can change your aspects. Character is higher than intellect.

“ I trust that my hard work will pay off.” -Tyler Haws

This statement by Tyler Haws means all the hard work you put into being the person you want to become will pay off. For example, Tyler Haws is a basketball player for Brigham Young University.  He woke up every morning with his dad and worked on his skills to improve them. When you work hard toward something you want to achieve you have to be confident that all the hard work you put in will pay off. This statement is a statement that can be helpful to everyone. You have to learn to push yourself to achieve greater things and becoming competitive. Put in extra work to improve whatever you want to improve. For example, if you want to improve on writing or something you really enjoy, put in extra hours and practice to improve. Just like Spencer W. Kimball says, “ we learn to do by doing.” In order to earn what you deserve you have to put in extra time and effort. Work toward your goal. Work toward something you want to become. Tyler Haws managed his time to improve on his basketball skills. You can do anything if you set your mind to it. Trust that your hard work will pay off and it will be worth it.
