Optometry Technician or Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities: Optometrists work in offices specifically eye and vision care clinics. Optometric assistants help optometrists run diagnostic tests, record and measure vision, test eye function, instruct patients on cleaning and taking care of contact lenses and many other tasks. Optometric assistants help out of difficulties the patient find with their vision, etc.

Salary: $30,590 median salary for medical assistants.

Education: To become this specific profession you must at least have completed your high school degree. There are available on-the-job training that is required but you may join a program that can prepare you to become a Optometric assistant. In this program you will be taught things such as medical office procedures, medical ethics, insurance coding and billing, and medical office software.

Demand or Need for this Profession: The job outlook for this specific career is growing by 23% on medical assistants which is greater than average for most jobs.

Reflection: I would enjoy to be one because it would be an opportunity to study about the eyes and how all the machinery they use work. You would also get to communicate with more people and communicate with many staff or even Optometric Assistants. I also liked to know more about the different parts of the eyes and how that all work together to perform the things we see and how others view things differently.
