Ophthalmologist

Duties and Responsibilities: Ophthalmologists perform eye surgery and treat eye diseases. They are specific kinds of doctors and they not only treat eye diseases they prescribe contact lenses and glasses. They establish certain treatment plans and discuss what would be the best treatment for the patient. Ophthalmologist are known as eye doctors.

Salary: Ophthalmologists earn in the range of $105,015 to $249,468 per year.

Education: To become an ophthalmologist you must earn/complete a 4-year bachelor’s degree, complete 4 years of medical school and complete residencies. Classes that you are required to take are biochemistry, anatomy, physiology,  physics, etc. To train/practice you are required to pass the licensing exam. It would be quite a while until you reach the goal of becoming an ophthalmologist but I think it would be worth it.

Demand or Need for this Profession: The job outlook of this career would be growing by 14%. Many spots are available for this medical field. There are also many other jobs to consider that connects to being an eye surgeon such as an Optometrist, and a Podiatrist.

Reflection : I am interested in this medical career because you get to examine different parts of the eye and it just seems like a really fun experience. You get to take a look at different patients and what they are diagnosed with. It would also be a great experience to learn about the eyes.
