Pathologist

Duties and Responsibilities: Pathologist are physicians that use body fluids and tissues to treat and diagnose diseases. They diagnose fluids like blood, urine, etc. They may also perform autopsies to discover a person’s death. Pathologists also take care of laboratory duties and work with other lab technicians. They are also to keep up with current diseases and the development in the field.

Salary: $191,945 annually

Education: Becoming a pathologist may take up to 12 years or more. First, you would have to earn a bachelor’s degree in pre-medical curriculum. After accomplishing that you would have to earn a Medical Doctor Degree or a Doctor of Osteopathy. These programs take up to four years in length and include classes such as pathology, emergency medicine, cardiology and medical ethics. After receiving either degree you are allowed to perform [pathology residency. After this, this follows up to a pathology fellowship that will lead up to 1 to 2 years.

Demand or Need for this Profession: There are many career opportunities that are medical related. Specifically for physicians and surgeons this job is increasing by 14%.

Reflection: I would look into this medical career because it gives you an opportunity to learn about the body and how body fluids can demonstrate you have a certain disease or condition. Although it take a lot of work and a lot of schooling I am willing to put in the work.
